What can happen to a restaurant in a just a few short years? The chef can change; the menu can change; the food can either get better or it can unfortunately.... get worse. Bad food was thankfully, NOT the case when I sat down with a female chef friend of mine, to catch up on girl stuff over brunch at 5 & Diamond recently. If you remember fabulous eaters I reviewed 5 & Diamond ( Click Here To Read Past Review ) when they first opened a couple years ago. At that time they were running a summer happy hour menu and everything on the selected menu was "$5". This was the first time I had pig ears and lamb belly.. Which I thoroughly enjoyed!! I've always meant to go back after that dinner because I really do love the atmosphere and decor of this small restaurant on the growing "Restaurant Row" in Harlem, but with 22,000 restaurants in the city that never sleeps, it honestly feel off my radar.
When our brunch location changed one rainy Sunday morning I suggested we head over to 5 & Diamond for bottomless mimosas and to try out the new menu!
With choices from the brunch Prix- Fixe or from the Chef's Selection, add $10 to your tab and the (endless) brunch cocktails hit your table immediately ! A boozy brunch in my book, is always a great thing on the weekends. Reviewing the menu took no time at all, especially when all the brunch favorites were there!
We ordered the following:
- Shrimp and Grits x Sunny Side Up Egg x Arugula
-5 & Diamond French toast x berries x soft whipped cream
-Side of scrambles eggs
-Buttermilk biscuits x Seasonal Jam x Butter
If you know me personally outside of Eating Fabulously, you know I ordered a extra sunny side up egg right! Smh I can't help it. Anywho, with creamy grits, well seasoned and perfectly cooked shrimp, and warm flaky biscuits, I was perfectly fat and happy! The french toast was hot, thick and fluffy with crispy edges, smothered with fresh bright berries and of course.. drowned in syrup! As the mimosa and the bourbon champagne cocktails kept flowing, we realized this place is small but gets busy quickly, so get there early! A clear sign that you have enjoyed your meal is that generally there is no food left on your plate.... So I'm pretty sure fabulous eaters you can only imagine how clean our plates were.... 5 & Diamond is back on my recommended list of good eats and it should be on yours too!!
